EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION
Employment as a police officer is a civil service position. The hiring process is explained in further detail upon picking up an application. A written civil service test is given once a year.

- Applications must be returned by 5:00 PM EST Monday April 27,2009.
- The written examination will be held on Tuesday May 5, 2009 at 5:00 PM EST at the Chambersburg Recreation Center (Bard Hall) 235 South Third St, Chambersburg PA.
- Applicants passing the written test will then be scheduled for the initial Physical agility test. The physical agility test consist of (5) strength and agility test.
- 6 ft wall climb
- Sitting shot put
- Vehicle push
- Obstacle course
- Long distance timed run (1 ½ mile)
- All applicants passing the written exam & initial physical agility test are placed on an eligibility list.
- Upon a position opening within the department, applicants are selected from the lists starting from top to bottom.
- Probable applicants are then subject to an intensive background check and oral interview.
- Select applicants are further subject to Psychological testing, a medical exam, drug screening, and a more extensive Physical Fitness Test. The physical testing consist of (6) tests which include: Push-Ups, Sit-Ups, Bench Press, 300 Meter Run, Vertical Jump, and 1 ½ Mile Timed Run.
