EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION



Employment as a police officer is a civil service position. The hiring process is explained in further detail upon picking up an application. A written civil service test is given once a year.

Employment process:

  1. Testing / Position is advertised in local newspapers.

  2. Application for testing can be picked up Monday Thru Friday at:

  3. Applications must be returned by the deadline given.

  4. Time, Date & Location is given for Civil Service Test.

  5. Applicants passing the written test will then be scheduled for the initial Physical agility test. The physical agility test consist of (5) strength and agility test.
    • 6 ft wall climb
    • Sitting shot put
    • Vehicle push
    • Obstacle course
    • Long distance timed run (1 ½ mile)

  6. All applicants passing the written exam & initial physical agility test are placed on an eligibility list.

  7. Upon a position opening within the department, applicants are selected from the lists starting from top to bottom.

  8. Probable applicants are then subject to an intensive background check and oral interview.

  9. Select applicants are further subject to Psychological testing, a medical exam, drug screening, and a more extensive Physical Fitness Test. The physical testing consist of (6) tests which include: Push-Ups, Sit-Ups, Bench Press, 300 Meter Run, Vertical Jump, and 1 ½ Mile Timed Run.
